Plan an ASU clinical search across Maine

AANP places Maine in the full practice category. Nurse practitioners can assess patients, diagnose, order and interpret tests, manage treatment, and prescribe within state law and their professional credentials. NPs work in independent practices, health systems, behavioral health, community clinics, and rural settings.

Full practice applies to licensed clinicians, not students. An ASU student participates under an approved preceptor and within the assigned course and site policies. Maine NPs also consult physicians and other professionals when patient needs call for team expertise, even though broad NP authority is not based on general physician supervision.

Ask about the clinician's current patients, specialty, clinic days, supervision style, and seasonal volume. Confirm current ASU program eligibility in Maine before relying on a proposed site or arranging long-distance travel.

The Maine State Board of Nursing provides official RN and advanced practice licensing information, applications, rules, guidance, and credential services. Its APRN pages explain the current state framework. Search the preceptor by exact legal name and confirm active nursing and APRN authority.

Add national certification, specialty, patient population, current practice address, and real duties to the review. The Board answers state credential questions. Edson evaluates whether the clinician, setting, supervision, and patients fit the ASU course.

Portland and surrounding southern communities have Maine's largest clinical market, including systems, independent groups, psychiatric services, primary care, pediatrics, and specialties. Lewiston and Auburn form another useful cluster. Large organizations may use central education offices and formal student application periods.

Bangor anchors a wide central and northern service area, while Augusta adds public, community, and outpatient settings. Students along the coast or farther north may need to include rural health organizations and a larger travel radius. Winter weather and provider coverage deserve a backup plan.

Tailor each request to the concentration and course. State the required patient population, dates, availability, and information needed from the preceptor. Ask who manages students and whether the site has capacity for the entire proposed schedule.

Maine is outside Maricopa County, so the current Edson process expects the student to identify required clinical sites and preceptors. Begin with professional contacts, former employers, regional NP networks, and practices whose patients align with the course.

Edson must approve the site and preceptor before any clinical work begins. The Maine facility may separately require health records, screening, orientation, privacy training, or department approval. Track every approval and do not schedule participation from a verbal invitation alone.

In Maricopa County, placements are generally assigned, with exceptions handled through the current Edson process. That Arizona policy does not transfer the sourcing task away from a Maine student. Check the Edson approval page for current steps.

The ASU Advanced Nursing Practice DNP has key NP concentrations in FNP, PMHNP, adult-gerontology, and women's health. The current FNP plan totals up to 1,125 clinical and residency hours, including 585 specialty practicum hours. Other totals vary, so confirm the current program of study, concentration, and catalog before planning.

Review one course at a time. Ask about eligible visit types, typical volume, preceptor leave, holiday schedules, and what happens during a weather closure. A rural practice may provide broad exposure but still need sufficient patients and consistent supervision for the assigned objectives.

Keep clinical tracking and compliance systems generic and follow the tools ASU currently provides. What matters for advance planning is a reliable schedule, approved activities, and accurate documentation.

ASU's program is hybrid and includes required Phoenix activities. It is never fully online. Maine students should account for Phoenix travel separately from the local clinical schedule and verify the current program calendar before committing to work or clinic dates.
