Organize an ASU preceptor search in Maryland

AANP categorizes Maryland as a full practice state. Nurse practitioners can evaluate patients, diagnose, order and interpret tests, initiate treatment, and prescribe under state law and their credentials. This supports broad NP roles in health systems, community care, psychiatric services, primary care, and specialties.

The full practice category does not make a student independent. ASU students work under the approved preceptor, within the assigned course and facility policies. Maryland NPs routinely consult across professions when patient complexity requires team input, even though broad authority is not based on a general physician agreement.

Confirm the clinician's certification, patients, duties, weekly schedule, and supervision plan. Students should verify current ASU program eligibility for Maryland before investing in system applications or commute changes.

The Maryland Board of Nursing publishes official advanced practice information and provides licensing and credential services. Its advanced practice pages are the appropriate source for current state requirements. Search the proposed preceptor by exact legal name and confirm active nursing and APRN authority.

Then review national certification, specialty, patient ages, current role, and practice address. The state record establishes credential status. Edson decides whether the clinician, site, supervision, and course activities meet ASU requirements.

Baltimore, Towson, Columbia, and Annapolis form a large central market with health systems, independent groups, behavioral health, urgent care, pediatrics, and specialties. Many organizations control student capacity through a central education office and fixed application windows.

Bethesda, Silver Spring, and Rockville add Montgomery County options. Frederick can extend the central and western search, while Hagerstown and Cumberland serve western Maryland. Salisbury is a practical Eastern Shore hub. Test travel against the real shift times because corridor traffic can change a workable radius.

Tell each practice the concentration, course, patient population, dates, schedule, and requested preceptor information. Ask who controls student access and whether department or system approval is required in addition to Edson review.

Maryland is outside Maricopa County. Under the current Edson process, the student identifies the required clinical sites and preceptors. Start with workplace and professional contacts, then expand by specialty and region instead of sending one general request to unrelated practices.

Edson must approve the site and preceptor before clinical work begins. Maryland facilities may add health documentation, screening, orientation, training, or department acceptance. Both school review and site onboarding should be complete before the student participates.

ASU's Advanced Nursing Practice DNP includes key concentrations in FNP, PMHNP, adult-gerontology, and women's health. The current FNP plan totals up to 1,125 clinical and residency hours, including 585 specialty practicum hours. Other totals vary, so confirm the current program of study, concentration, and catalog before scheduling.

Convert the current course requirement into clinic days and eligible encounters. Ask about patient volume, preceptor leave, holidays, and competing students. A Maryland primary care site may fit one course but not psychiatric, adult-gerontology, women's health, or another specialty objective.

Keep clinical tracking and compliance systems generic and follow ASU's current instructions. Accurate documentation cannot replace site approval, and an approved site cannot replace the patient experiences required by the course.
