Create an ASU clinical plan for Minnesota

AANP lists Minnesota as a full practice state. Nurse practitioners can assess patients, diagnose, order and interpret tests, initiate treatment, and prescribe within state law and their credentials. NPs serve patients across family care, psychiatric services, adult care, acute settings, women's health, and specialties.

Full practice does not give an ASU student independent authority. Students remain supervised by the approved preceptor and follow the course and facility rules. Minnesota clinicians also consult across disciplines when patient needs call for it, even though broad NP practice is not based on a general physician agreement.

Confirm the clinician's certification, patient mix, clinic days, and supervision. Verify current ASU program eligibility in Minnesota before accepting a proposed schedule or changing work obligations.

The Minnesota Board of Nursing provides official licensing, advanced practice, rules, applications, and credential services. Search the proposed preceptor by exact legal name and confirm the active RN and APRN record using current Board resources.

Then verify national certification, specialty, current role, patient ages, and practice address. State authority is the first check. Edson separately decides whether the site, clinician, supervision, and activities satisfy the ASU course.

Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and their suburbs form the state's largest clinical market. Systems, independent groups, community clinics, behavioral health, urgent care, and specialties provide possibilities, while many organizations use central student applications and fixed review periods.

Rochester, Duluth, Saint Cloud, Mankato, and Moorhead are major regional hubs. Bemidji and Iron Range communities can broaden northern searches. Outside the metro area, fewer matching clinicians and winter travel make early outreach especially important.

Present the concentration, course, patients, dates, availability, and requested preceptor details. Ask who manages learners and whether a department or system office must approve the arrangement before Edson review can be completed.

Minnesota is outside Maricopa County, so the current Edson process expects students to identify required clinical sites and preceptors. Begin with trusted professional contacts and organizations that serve the right patient population, then expand by region.

Edson must approve the site and preceptor before clinical work starts. Minnesota facilities may require health documentation, screening, privacy training, orientation, or internal approval. Track both the school and facility process and do not begin from an informal invitation.

Within Maricopa County, placements are generally assigned, with exceptions controlled by current Edson procedures. Minnesota students should use the outside-Maricopa process and consult the Edson approval page for current instructions.

Maintain a simple outreach and approval log. Record the clinic contact, date, response, patient focus, preceptor availability, facility deadline, and next Edson step. This is especially useful when a Twin Cities system has several departments or when a regional practice needs time to identify who can authorize student participation.

The Advanced Nursing Practice DNP includes key NP concentrations in FNP, PMHNP, adult-gerontology, and women's health. The current FNP plan totals up to 1,125 clinical and residency hours, including 585 specialty practicum hours. Other totals vary, so confirm the current program of study, concentration, and catalog.

Plan one course at a time. Ask about eligible encounters, preceptor presence, holidays, leave, weather closures, and backup clinic days. A strong site needs the correct patients and sufficient supervision throughout the term, not only an open schedule at the beginning.

Use generic language for clinical tracking and compliance tools and follow ASU's current systems. Approved activities and accurate documentation should be built into the schedule from the start.

ASU's program is hybrid with required Phoenix activities. It is never fully online. Minnesota students should protect time for Phoenix travel while maintaining the attendance commitment made to the local preceptor.
