Create a practical ASU clinical plan in New Mexico

AANP places New Mexico in the full practice category. Nurse practitioners can assess patients, diagnose, order and interpret tests, manage treatment, and prescribe under state law and their credentials. NPs often play central roles in metropolitan, community, behavioral health, specialty, and rural care.

Full practice does not make an ASU student independent. Students work under an approved preceptor and follow the course and facility rules. New Mexico NPs collaborate with other professionals when patient needs call for team care.

Review patient ages, visit types, volume, preceptor presence, and supervision. Confirm current ASU program eligibility in New Mexico before committing to a proposed site or travel schedule.

The New Mexico Board of Nursing provides official licensing, advanced practice, rules, applications, notices, and credential services. Search the preceptor by exact legal name and confirm the active nursing and APRN record.

Then check national certification, specialty, patients, current role, and practice address. Edson evaluates those details with the site, course, and supervision plan to determine academic suitability.

Albuquerque is the state's largest clinical market, with systems, independent groups, community clinics, psychiatric care, urgent care, and specialties. Rio Rancho extends the central search, while Santa Fe adds public, community, and outpatient options.

Las Cruces anchors the south. Roswell and Hobbs provide southeast options, Farmington serves the Four Corners, Clovis supports the east, and Gallup is a western hub. Tribal or federal organizations may have additional authorization and onboarding processes.

Use a travel radius that can be repeated throughout the term. State the concentration, course, patient requirements, dates, availability, and preceptor information requested by ASU.

New Mexico is outside Maricopa County, so students identify required clinical sites and preceptors under current Edson policy. Begin with employers, professional contacts, and local clinicians, then expand by course and region.

Edson must approve the site and preceptor before clinical work begins. New Mexico facilities may add screening, health documentation, orientation, privacy training, or credentialing. Both school approval and site onboarding must be complete.

In Maricopa County, placements are generally assigned, with exceptions controlled through current Edson procedures. New Mexico students should use the outside-Maricopa pathway and review the Edson approval page for current instructions.

Create a record for each proposed site with the exact organization name, address, student contact, preceptor credentials, patient focus, weekly capacity, and facility requirements. Tribal, federal, system, and independent practices may follow different pathways even when they serve the same regional community.

Plan a second travel corridor while the first request is under review. Albuquerque and Rio Rancho may support one strategy, while Santa Fe, Las Cruces, or another regional hub requires a different schedule. The alternate must still meet course objectives and receive Edson approval.

Ask how census changes, holidays, and provider leave affect eligible encounters. A rural clinic can provide excellent breadth, but the student needs enough approved days to absorb cancellations without creating unsafe travel pressure.

The ASU Advanced Nursing Practice DNP includes key NP concentrations in FNP, PMHNP, adult-gerontology, and women's health. The current FNP plan totals up to 1,125 clinical and residency hours, including 585 specialty practicum hours. Other totals vary, so confirm the current program of study, concentration, and catalog.

At the course level, confirm eligible patients, preceptor days, census patterns, holidays, leave, and travel. A rural practice can provide broad experience but variable volume, so discuss backup days and schedule margin early.

Keep clinical tracking and compliance systems generic and use ASU's current tools. Approved activities, patient fit, supervision, and documentation all matter.

ASU's program is hybrid with required Phoenix activities. It is never fully online. New Mexico students should coordinate Phoenix travel with the local clinical schedule.
