AANP currently categorizes Wisconsin as a reduced practice state. At least one element of nurse practitioner practice is limited under the current framework. Wisconsin's APRN Modernization Act creates a new APRN licensing structure scheduled to take effect September 1, 2026, so students should verify the rules in force for the actual clinical term.

Screen the proposed preceptor under current state requirements rather than relying on an older label or a future effective date. Confirm the clinician's credential, population focus, prescribing status, and practice arrangement. Regulatory change does not by itself determine whether the site fits an ASU course.

The student remains supervised under either framework. ASU course objectives, Edson approval, site policy, and the approved preceptor define the learner's activities.

Wisconsin's Department of Safety and Professional Services licenses nurses and advanced practice nurse prescribers and publishes official profession resources. Check the candidate's active record, credential type, specialty information, and public discipline. For a term near or after the new framework's effective date, confirm current APRN guidance directly with DSPS.

Request a current CV and evaluate the clinical environment. Ask about patient ages, common conditions, visit volume, weekly schedule, student history, and direct supervision time. A valid credential is necessary, but the patient population and services must also fit the specific course.

Identify the person who can authorize a learner. Larger systems may use central education review, while independent or community practices may decide locally. Both need the ability to complete onboarding and Edson documentation.

Milwaukee has the state's largest concentration of health systems, primary care, psychiatric services, women's health, adult care, and specialties. Madison offers another broad market. Green Bay and the Fox Cities create a useful northeastern corridor with both system and community options.

Eau Claire anchors western Wisconsin, La Crosse serves the Mississippi River region, and Wausau provides a central option. Superior can be important in the northwest, but a nearby Duluth, Minnesota site is a separate state location and needs its own eligibility and Edson review.

Winter travel, clinic start times, and the required number of weekly shifts can turn a reasonable map distance into a difficult schedule. Define a sustainable radius and ask organizations about student cycles and review lead times before relying on a candidate.

ASU's Advanced Nursing Practice DNP separates clinical placement responsibility by location. Students completing required experiences outside Maricopa County identify their own sites and preceptors. Edson must approve the proposed Wisconsin arrangement before the student begins clinical work.

Within Maricopa County, placements are assigned through the current Edson process, with exceptions controlled by Edson. That model does not assign a Wisconsin site. Confirm current deadlines, concentration criteria, preceptor documents, and site agreement requirements for the intended term.

Wisconsin organizations may require an affiliation agreement, background review, health documentation, privacy education, and orientation. Start those tasks early, especially during the regulatory transition, and keep organizational acceptance separate from academic approval.

ASU's Advanced Nursing Practice DNP includes key NP concentrations in FNP, PMHNP, adult-gerontology, and women's health. The current FNP plan totals up to 1,125 clinical and residency hours, including 585 specialty practicum hours. Students should verify the latest sequence and eligible settings in the program of study and catalog.

Other concentration totals vary. A family clinic may support broad FNP learning, while PMHNP, adult-gerontology, and women's health courses require the appropriate services, patient population, and preceptor qualifications. More than one Wisconsin site may be needed across the degree plan.

The program is hybrid and includes required Phoenix activities. It is not fully online. Coordinate Phoenix dates with Wisconsin shifts, weather, onboarding, work, and possible changes among specialty preceptors.
